Renewables supplied 53% of UK electricity in Q2 2026. Over the same quarter, 2.4 TWh of potential wind generation was curtailed, equivalent to around 15% of potential output.
Our latest data sheet brings together the figures shaping renewable and battery energy storage projects, from record generation to network constraints and connection progress.
The Q2 position
Renewable output continues to grow, but network capacity and flexibility are not keeping pace in every part of the system.
The data sheet covers:
- renewable generation during Q2 2026
- wind curtailment and where it is concentrated
- progress issuing connection offers
- grid-scale battery capacity and the range modelled for 2029
Grid-scale battery capacity stood at 7.3 GW in June 2026, compared with the Clean Power 2030 ambition of 23 to 27 GW. The pace at which projects secure connections will influence how quickly that gap closes.
What this means for projects in development
A project may eventually connect to different network conditions from those used during its early modelling.
Changes to generation, demand, connection dates and reinforcement programmes can affect fault levels, operating scenarios, protection requirements and equipment duties. Reviewing these assumptions before the design becomes fixed can reduce the risk of repeated studies, equipment changes or late redesign.
EPS supports developers and project teams through power system studies, grid code compliance and HV and LV electrical design. These services cover projects from early feasibility and network modelling through to detailed design, compliance and energisation.
EPS Capabilities
Power System Modelling & Analysis
Assess load flow, fault levels, protection coordination, harmonics and other network conditions before they become embedded in the design.
HV / LV Electrical Design
From concept and FEED through to detailed design, EPS supports renewable and BESS projects with electrical layouts, equipment specifications, cable systems, protection requirements and design coordination.
Grid Code Compliance & Connection Studies
Review connection requirements, test compliance assumptions and identify where the proposed scheme may need further study or design development.
Earthing Design & Site Testing
Earthing performance depends on accurate site data and a design suited to the network and ground conditions. EPS provides soil resistivity surveys, fall-of-potential testing, earthing modelling and touch and step voltage assessments.
