Petrochemical & Pharmaceuticals

Ensuring Smooth Operations In Petrochemicals and Pharmaceuticals

The petrochemical and pharmaceuticals sector is characterised by intricate processes stringent safety standards, and a heightened focus on environmental responsibility. Petrochemical facilities deal with the complex transformation of raw materials into chemicals products. While pharmaceutical companies manufacture life-saving drugs and healthcare solutions. Efficient electrical power distribution systems are the core of both of these operations. It goes without saying the optimal design and management of these facilities is imperative.

Our Approach

Using electrical engineering software and SKM power tools such as ETAP, ERACs, IPSA, and DIgSILENT our power system consultants can provide a holistic overview of your electrical infrastructure, identifying faults and other non-conformities.

Adherence to safety standards and regulations is non-negotiable. We ensure that your electrical systems and equipment are in full compliance with relevant codes. This includes those set forth by bodies such as the NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and others.

Whether it’s a power system study for your entire electrical architecture or an expansion or modification to your existing infrastructure, EPS can provide you with the following technical services:

  • Load flow analysis studies.
  • Short circuit studies.
  • Transient Motor Starting Studies.
  • Harmonic analysis.
  • Protection coordination.
  • Arc Flash and switchgear risk assessments.
  • Electrical thermal imaging survey reports.

Minor Projects

The majority of process plant operators and owners are seeking a low cost base solution for minor project work that does not involve all the additional costs associated with large EPC companies. EPS can help you with a low cost engineering & design for the following typical example projects:

  • Lighting additions / modifications.
  • Trace heating modifications / extensions to existing circuits.
  • Additions to / replacements of UPS systems.
  • Electrical supplies to pump skids.
  • MCC / switchboard cubicle specifications.

In addition to the above work scopes we’d provide modifications / additions to the existing drawings / documents to reflect these changes.

Drawing consolidation work

Many process plants over the years have undertaken refurbishment or long-life extension projects involving the creation of additional drawings that are either no longer required or confuse technicians carrying out maintenance work. EPS can help you consolidate and revise these drawings to assist your technicians:

  • Utilising existing drawings and combining them into one ‘up to date’ drawing e.g. key single-line drawings
  • UPS key single-line drawings

Specialist Consultancy

Using electrical engineering software such as SKM Power Tools, ETAP, ERACs, IPSA or DigSILENT our electrical engineers can provide you with a study report for your power system.

Whether it’s a power system study for the entire process plants electrical distribution system or a modification / addition to the electrical system EPS can provide you with the following technical services:

  • Load flow analysis studies.
  • Short circuit studies.
  • Transient Motor Starting Studies.
  • Harmonic analysis.
  • Protection co-ordination.
  • Arc Flash and switchgear risk assessments.
  • Electrical thermal imaging survey reports.
  • Independent project cost estimates.

Equipment documentation

If you’re looking to replace some existing equipment and require a data sheet or specification to purchase this equipment then EPS can provide this technical service; typical documentation for projects may include:

  • Replacement emergency power generation panel specification, FAT scope, installation work scope.
  • UPS system specification, data sheet.
  • LV and HV switchboards / MCC’s, specification, protection schedule, FAT scope.
  • DC Chargers specification, data sheet.
  • Equipment installation specification.
  • Cable jointing specification.
  • Condition monitoring specification, data sheets.

Additional services

  • Electrical surveys.
  • Thermal imaging surveys.
  • Energy Efficiency calculations.
  • Factory Acceptance Testing (national and international).

Typical projects include

Providing cost-effective electrical design solutions for:

  • Trace heating design for example additional Pressure Transmitters.
  • Lighting design and power supplies for example a new compound / existing switchroom.
  • Providing supplies to and from new skid equipment.
  • Decommissioning – removing and rerouting power supplies for decommissioned and remaining operational plant.
